Combatting Abuse<\/h2>\n

PIR is proud to operate .ORG as an exemplary nonprofit registry that supports a free, open, and safe Internet. Our number one priority is to protect the .ORG community when it comes to fighting DNS Abuse so we developed a set of\u00a0 Anti-Abuse Principles.<\/a> These principles present a roadmap to help to guide our efforts to build a cleaner, safer, more trusted .ORG.\u00a0 DNS Abuse receives perhaps the most attention because of its potential to put all of us at risk online. For PIR, this key issue includes technical abuses of the DNS like phishing, pharming, malware, botnets, and spam when it serves as a delivery mechanism for these abusive activities. We also pursue a few limited categories of website content abuses such as Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM), online distribution of opioids or narcotics, and imminent threat to human safety. All of these threats undermine trust in the Internet and result in real harm for their victims.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

Focused on Reducing DNS Abuse<\/h3>\n

The Internet is a powerful agent for positive change. At the same time, there are those that use the Internet to achieve their own negative ends. The NetBeacon Institute<\/a> exists to act against online DNS Abuse, keeping the negative side of the public Internet in check to allow the positive side to flourish.<\/p>\n

The NetBeacon Institute is tasked with driving outcomes-based initiatives that will create recommended practices, foster collaboration, and develop industry-shared solutions to combat the five areas of DNS Abuse<\/a>: malware, botnets, phishing, pharming, and related spam.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Partners in Combatting CSAM<\/h3>\n

PIR partners with the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) to help combat the commercial distribution and exploitation of online child sexual abuse material (CSAM) across .ORG and the other TLDs under our care<\/span>. PIR also sponsors access<\/a> for\u00a0all Domain Name Registries with free access to two important IWF services, Domain Alerts\u00a0<\/a>and the TLD (Top-Level Domain) Hopping List<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The increased access to these services will allow for faster, more streamlined disruption to child sexual abuse imagery identified by the IWF and enable quick action to be taken to stop criminals hopping from one domain to another to keep their content online.<\/p>\n
